ANOTHER CROSSING

PERFORMANCE - facilitation

Heritage Corner was immensely proud to work with a talented team to direct the theatrical presentation of poet Khadijah Ibrahiim's new book - ANOTHER CROSSING.

"Here is a marvellous collection of poems that speaks to Leeds and the world; there's lyricism here, and history and joy, politics, food, anger, and love. Above all there's

a powerful voice steeped in the Black Yorkshire experience

that truly mines the universal in the local." - Ian McMillan

"In rhythms that draw from the music being celebrated, and an unerring eye for the details of style that catch a moment, Another Crossing explores the politics of multicultural Britain and its stories of settlement." (Peepal Tree Press)

The launch event was funded by Leeds Inspired and took place at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in October, 2014. With the assistance of Carol Sorhaindo's art studio (Studio 15) - choreography and staging was structured by legendary dancer David Hamilton, whilst ingenious live music was smoothly conveyed by award-winning musician Chris Campbell. Khadijah Ibrahiim gave a sublime performance as the sold-out Courtyard Theatre led to the most sales of a book at a launch promoted by stalwart publishers Peepal Tree Press.

The book cover features the author's mother, Gloria, in 1960's Leeds.
